A Free Rush of Blog Traffic

The latest craze to hit the blogosphere is a neat little blog widget called BlogRush. Many sites are starting to implement it which is great news for bloggers everywhere. How it works is you get credit for everytime the widget gets displayed on your blog and using these credits, you can have your posts exist on the widget of other blogs in the same category.
What is it good for?
In short, this means free highly targeted traffic to your blog. However, the number of times a post of yours is visible is directly related to the number of visitors you receive. Also, you get extra credits for referrals up to 10 levels down at a reduced ratio.
- Your traffic and direct referrals – 1:1 credit
- 2nd level referrals – 1:1 credit
- 3rd-6th level referrals – 1:4 credit (every 4 visits will get you 1 credit).
- 7th-10th level referrals – 1:8 credit (every 8 visits will get you 1 credit).
When you do the math, you’ll see that this works out to displaying 4 links per widget view yet there are 5 links in a widget. This leaves BlogRush one extra spot for them to sell — a genius idea with genius execution.
A Suggestion
One suggestion I would have for the BlogRush team is to have some way of awarding those blogs that have a high “click-through rate”. This way it would force bloggers not to bury the widget at the bottom of the page where it would not get much exposure yet still earn the blogger a credit. That being said, I think I need to move to a 3-column layout soon to fit in everything I have on my sidebar!
Like link trains and other referral-based systems, these things seem to award the early adopters. So if you haven’t signed up yet, do so soon! If you wish, you can use my referral link to help a brother out!
