Game Break: Best Defend Your Castle Games
Posted by Jon Lee in Entertainment, tags: defense, flash-games, gaming, top-listDefend your Castle, Defend your Base, Defend your House, Defense Games etc. These would be my second most favorite genre of flash games next to Tower Defense games.
Although this genre is similar to Tower Defense in that you try to eliminate enemies as they rush towards their objective, the difference is that it is you yourself that does the killing as opposed to towers. Generally, you gain money from the enemies you kill and you can use this money to upgrade your weapons or to buy automated weapons to help you defend your castle/base/house.
Here are in my opinion, the top 5 best “Defend Your Castle” style games:
The Last Stand
If you liked the movie 28 Days Later then you will surely love this game. The Last Stand puts you in a barricade against hordes of zombies during the night. And during the day, you go scouring for better weapons and other survivors (to help defend against zombies and increase chances of finding weapons). This game involves a little bit of movement around your barricade which adds a little dimension to the game. Also, the graphics are great. Here’s a hint: Aim for the head.
D-Fence 2
This game is probably the most complex game on the list. The layout is like Sim City where you can build residential houses, factories, buildings to gain money and soldiers. There is definitely more strategy involved in this than some of the other games. The interface is very slick and the graphics aren’t anything to write home about but you wouldn’t want to run this on a very old computer either. Also, you may need to play it at least a few times to get the hang of it. It is a sequel to D-Fence but the gameplay is entirely different. If you’re having trouble getting started, check out the author’s strategy guide.
Momentum Missle Mayhem
From the creator of the Starcraft Flash Action series comes this addicting Flash game where you have to defend your base against oncoming tanks. The physics engine of this game sets it apart from the other games on this list. Your weapon is a slingshot where you shoot balls of energy at the enemy. Upon impact, the enemy will bounce like a billiards ball. To do maximum damage, you’ll need to knock enemies into each other. There are also lots of upgrades including antimatter explosions and nukes. Hint: get a reasonable stability first and then work on maxing out zero-point energy.
Demonic Defense Series
This series involves defending your castle against stick soldiers, sorcerers, tanks, jet planes, giants, catapults and other random enemies. The game also has an RPG aspect to it where you can increase your own strength, dexterity, spells etc. The gameplay is really fast paced and features a Rune system where you can purchase runes and cast powerful spells (which are absolutely necessary to advance to higher levels!) Check out Demonic Defense two three and four!
Bowmaster Series
Bowmaster and Bowmaster Prelude puts you in the position of an archer given the task of defending your castle against an opposing army. You shoot arrows by pulling back your bow and letting it go with just the right angle and power. For every enemy you kill, you get gold and experience which you can then use to get more powerful arrows. My one gripe with this game is the pace of it. At the beginning it can be tediously slow until you can get some more powerful arrows. Also, you only gain gold and XP with regular arrow kills which kind of makes the game a balance between power and greed. Otherwise, it’s really well made with great graphics and gameplay.
Defend Your Castle – Honorable Mention
This game gets an honorable mention because it was the one that started it all and defined this genre of Flash games. The gameplay is unique as you don’t get weapons but instead you use your mouse to pick up enemies and toss them around. Toss them high enough or fast enough into the ground and they’ll die. There are an unlimited number of levels and the ultimate goal is simply to buy enough archers to make your castle self sufficient thus allowing the game to run indefinitely on its own!
Other Defend Your Castle/Base/House Games
Here’s a list of games that didn’t make the list. There are many more of these games than there are Tower Defense games so this list only contains those I feel are worth playing
If you have a recommendation you feel is worthy, I’d gladly add it to the list!
- D-Fence the Game – Protect your base from those green toy soldiers!
- Base Defense 2 – Graphics aren’t great but gameplay is decent
- Storm the House
- Storm the House 2
- Black Sheep Acres – Warning: You have to kill cute bunnies and deer
- Final Fortress – 10 level demo
- Christmas Castle Defense – Keep your castle above snow!
- Air Defense 3 -World War 2 styles
- The Portal Guardian

Try Strategy Defense 3
http://www.gamesforwork.com/games/play-7698-Strategy_Defense_3-Flash_Game
Has 45 different soldier units and 15 different towers.
Use your Greater Heal when you are healing one target that will take a lot of damage and will continue to do so for, at least, the next couple of seconds. If your target is not taking damage at a constant rate, be sure to cancel your Greater Heal halfway through if your target is still topped off, or nearly so. Then start casting your heal again. This is the case for most tanks, so spam your Greater Heal if you are healing your main tank.
D-Fence 2 is a great game I love to see more of those kind of games.
