Google Offers Feedburner PRO for Free.

Ever since Google announced that they bought Feedburner, I kind of had a feeling this would happen. Feedburner PRO features are now free for all Feedburner users. This is just like when Google bought Urchin stats two years ago and made the $500/month service free (Google Analytics). With this move Google now owns the best analytics software for both websites and RSS feeds (TotalStats). This really gives them a lot of data to work and track with and is a very smart move on their part in my opinion.

I was going to write an overview of the Feedburner PRO features but John Chow beat me to it. The two main features are the aforementioned TotalStats and MyBrand which allows you to keep your Feedburner on your own domain instead of on feeds.feedburner.com.

So after this, is there anything else Google really needs? I think they could take over Alexa/Compete/Quantcast and improve it greatly using the stats they’re now getting from Feedburner and Analytics. Or perhaps they can buy out mediatemple and offer free high quality web hosting!
