How-to: Remove Ad from FoxitReader

In my last post, I wrote a short tutorial on how to make Adobe Acrobat Reader load faster. I also mentioned that the best PDF reader in my opinion is FoxitReader. It’s portable, it’s fast and it’s free!
Now I didn’t mention that it does contain an advertisement. This advertisement is small and unobtrusive (plus they only advertise their own products). But if you are keen on getting rid of these advertisements, there’s an easy way to remove them permanently.
To Remove the Advertisement
Under the View menu, simply uncheck “Advertisement”. After doing so, that particular ad will never be shown again.
However, FoxitReader comes with a 5 ad rotation (as of version 2.0). So what you can do is close the program and repeat the above 4 more times. Suddenly, your FoxitReader is advertisement free!
If you ever bring back the Advertisement, it will immediately restore all 5 ads and you’ll have to remove each ad manually again! But really, for such a great freeware tool, a completely unobtrusive ad really shouldn’t be anything to complain about!
FoxitReader for Windows Mobile
Just as a sidenote, they also have a version of FoxitReader for both Windows Mobile as well as Linux (preview version). If you’ve ever owned a Windows Mobile Smartphone (not PocketPC), you’ll know how difficult it is to find a decent free PDF reader. I thought I had found the answer to my prayers but unfortunately, the program refuses to load on my i-mate SP5, giving an error message of “Alert: Failed to Create Empty Document”. I guess it’s not as easy as watching movies on Windows Mobile. I’ve e-mailed Foxit support and am hoping to hear back from them soon!
