mediatemple Coupon and Referral Program
Posted by Jon Lee in Reviews, Site stuff, tags: mediatemple
Last month, my web hosting company mediatemple quietly rolled out a customer referral program offering hosting discounts for referring others!
To use me as a referrer, click here to order a package or manually enter “compmath.com” into the referral box on the order form! Also, don’t forget to enter coupon codes kirupa05, surfstation, octeth, kirupa07 - all give you 15% off which is the maximum discount currently available. This can bring the Grid Server hosting package down to just $14.17 per month! Which is very comparable to other cheaper web hosts!
Update (July 27, 2007): Coupon code mtiphone gives 20% off! Grid Server hosting now only $13.34 per month (with one year payment). Don’t forget to enter referral name “jonlee.ca”! Expired as of July 30, 2007, thanks Mr. Dew!
Update (Jan 2, 2008): Coupon code kirupa07 works for 15% off. None of the other coupon codes are currently working.
So in order to make this not sound like a shameless promotion, here are the posts I have written about mediatemple in the past:
- Review: mediatemple’s MySQL Containers
- mediatemple’s GPU Overhaul – It’s great!
- mediatemple’s GRID System Upgrade
- jonlee.ca and mediatemple

I’ll be honest, like all hosting companies they have had their ups and downs but their service has been superb for the past few months ever since the grid server went through a massive upgrade. The price is more expensive than other hosting companies but the powerful yet intuitive in-house control panel and honest, helpful customer service makes it well worth it. Not to mention their free Rails container which makes it the perfect development environment for Ruby on Rails developers. It allocates dedicated resources to your Rail applications even though you’re on a shared grid hosting plan.
I’m planning to upgrade to their dedicated-virtual hosting very soon as I am reaching the peaks of what their grid server has to offer (I’m running 20 different sites off my hosting plan right now).

I’m a big fan of Mediatemple & their gridservers. They have an awesome website too, can’t go far wrong for the price
I really am awed by MT, but the fact is that unless my revenue starts improving I cannot think about such paid hosting..

Very cool. I’ve been looking for a new host (currenlty with Dreamhost
) and I’ve heard nothing but good things about MediaTemple. They’re more expensive than most, but reliable service and good support is worth the extra price. I ordered using your referral.
Thanks! I can’t stop saying great things about them and I recommend them to all my friends!
Twice the price of Dreamhost for ten times the quality! That’s my experience anyway, I haven’t heard much about Dreamhost since I switched away from them 8 months ago.
[...] Earlier today, my favorite web host, mediatemple, has come out with their newest server package. It’s called (dpv) Nitro and is a very high end package — definitely not for average Internet blog owner. Coming in at $750 per month, you better have a damn good reason for getting it! (As low as $575/month after applying mediatemple coupon). [...]
I heard some bad things about MediaTemple, I don’t know if the issues have been resolved. I saw some people complaining about MySQL problems and how unstable the GS is. Are you using the GS currently? How is it like so far?
Near the beginning of the year when they were upgrading their GS servers, MySQL had some difficulties. For the past few months everything has been rock solid with pretty much 100% uptime!
Thanks for the quick reply! I think you written somewhere that your website uses about 2 GPU when not digged. Would you care to reveal how many hits you have per month?
I probably go with their GS, does the coupons have a validity period?
I’m using more than 2 GPU now, running 20 sites off my one account, I use about 500-600 GPU a month.
This blog gets just over 1000 hits a day, the 20 sites combined get about 20,000 a day.
As for the coupon, the 15% ones have been around for a while so I don’t see them expiring anytime soon. The 20% coupon is a promotion for their new iPhone account center so it might expire in a couple months time, I really have no idea!
Also, they do offer a full money back guarantee so you can try it out for a few weeks to see if you like it. If you have time, I’d recommend doing so with several different hosts to see which one suits your needs best. Just make sure the hosts you choose are reputable enough to uphold their guarantee!
Thanks for your replies! I tried the mtiphone code and it says it’s invalid already it seems.
Whoa that one expired fast.. guess it was a one or two-day special. Thanks for letting me know! I’ve updated the post.

I was looking for some information about Media Temple referral program.
Your post is great and clear.
Thanks also for the coupons, I think I will go ahead with Media Temple even if other web hosting have better referall programs.

[...] there isn’t a single hosting company that works well for everyone. Not everyone can afford mediatemple’s high quality web hosting, and a pay-as-you-go hosting package is not the best choice for people expecting a lot of traffic. [...]
I ave to agree with Pingback there is not a fit all solution to web hosting. Some people need alot of space for a few bucks others want more. Cheapness is not necessarily the best way to go but it can work until you can afford better quality.
none of the discount codes work.
I just checked now — looks like kirupa05 and octeth no longer work. surfstation still gives 15% off though!
surfstation doesn’t work. I just tried 12/23/2007 and said special offer code – invalid code.

kirupa07 is working for 15% dis.
Thanks for letting me know!
Hello there, this is a little off topic comment-question related to MT, but hope you can help me or point me in the right direction…
I’m also hosted with (mt) and recently discovered that Google has indexed my grid server account (s#####.gridserver.com) _besides_ my actual site, so now Google has two “sites” with the exact same content… and you know what that means.
Can you tell me how can I stop this? Can it be done with robots.txt or .htaccess or something alse?
Thanks in advance, ciao!
Hey there!
You can use an .htaccess redirect to force everything to go to your actual site.
http://www.jonlee.ca/how-to-create-various-redirects/
Alternatively, in your AccountCenter you can choose where s####.gridserver.com points to
Thanks for the special offer code, I’ve put you in as the referrer!
James.
Thanks for the discount code…I went ahead and ordered the full year.
Now I was going to order from then anyhow but since I found a code here I gave you the referral…hope it helps. Just curious, how well do you do on hosting referrals?
Again, Thanks.
