Bill Gates at the University of WaterlooExciting news! I was chosen as one of the lucky few to attend a talk given by Microsoft’s Founder and Chairman, Bill Gates. This coming Thursday, he will be at the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Canada) to address students at the school and surrounding areas.

Officially, he will be addressing two topics:

  • Magic of software as a driver of innovation, innovation as the lifeblood of the new economy
  • Engaging students into mathematics, science and engineering.

Although these topics don’t appeal directly to me, I think the talk should be fun and stimulating. I’m sure he will also address Yahoo! acquisition rumors as well as the exciting new Microsoft Surface computing platform.
Why Waterloo?
Why is he coming to the small town of Waterloo of all places? Well aside from being the most intelligent city in the world, the University of Waterloo has one of the leading mathematics and computer science programs in the world and is also a breeding pit of Microsoft, Google and RIM employees. All three companies have recruiting offices here and hire a large proportion of computer science graduates.

I’m rather excited for the talk this Thursday and will report back with full details! For those interested, there will be a live webcast of the talk as well.

Bill Gates’ Last Talk
I’ve heard rumors that this will be one of his last talks ever. Since announcing his retirement from Microsoft last year, his schedule has definitely been more free. Want proof? Just watch this video:

If anyone has any questions you’d like me to ask him, I’d be glad to do so!
