Time for the monthly review of my blog! First, let’s go over last month’s goals and see which ones I’ve accomplished.
Goals for August 2007
- Increase Alexa ranking into top 47,500
My Alexa ranking peaked at 48,000 but has since dropped back down to 50,500. Looks like this is the level my blog is currently at. I’ll have to find some ways to pick up the slack and push it over 47,500 next month! - Increase RSS readership above 300
RSS subscribership is sitting at 310. Adding the “e-mail feed” button to the right may have helped. It was always located in the footer but I guess nobody really scrolls that far down. - Increase Technorati ranking into the top 2,000
I wanted to find out if there is a
icon and indeed there is! My rank peeked in the 1,800s but is currently at 1,940. - Maintain a post a day
I think I missed one day of posting but I made up for it with two posts on another day so on average, this goal was met. - Hold another giveaway contest
I’m actually holding two contests this month! The first contest is for the world’s smallest microSD reader (which ends tomorrow by the way)! The second contest is a logo and header contest for this blog with a cash prize. Get your entries in! - Launch something!
I mentioned it wasn’t going to be a website, instead it was my first Facebook application, Photogenic. It currently has over 1,000 users and is still gaining popularity! - Win another Contest
Unfortunately, I didn’t win anything this month but I didn’t enter many contests either. Perhaps next month.
Goals for Next Month
- Increase Alexa ranking into top 47,500
Let’s give this one another shot. - Increase RSS readership above 350
On the highest day, I was only a dozen readers short of this goal so I think it should be achievable. - Increase Technorati ranking into the top 1,750
I doubt there will be a top 1.75k icon but it’ll be a nice step up. Slow and steady wins the race. - Maintain a post a day
If I make this goal, it’ll be 4 months in a roll! - Hold yet another giveaway contest
I love giving stuff away and people like getting stuff for free, so why not! - Increase Photogenic Facebook Userbase to 5,000
I hope that by the end of next month, my Facebook application will have at least 5,000 users. This will put its value at $1,250 to $5000. - Win another Contest
I can’t win any contests without entering any so I might dedicate an entire post to entering a bunch of contests sometime this month.
How is everyone else doing?

With so many contests going on right now, you’re sure to win something this month!
Well … let’s hope so. It’s always good to look back and say that you’ve accomplished everything you set out to do
Hey Jon,
I was wondering if there is a plugin to show the most recent incoming link?? if not can you create this plugin in??
It could be title Recent Incoming Links.
This way people can blog about you blog, and the most recent blogger would gain some visibility. Create a loyal fan base. Create some traffic from other bloggers who are more inclined to blog about your blog.
- Prija
That’s a really good idea Prija. It’s been done though:

I’d be glad to make one if there is some feature you need that those plugins don’t offer!
well congrats for your report a nice increase in your feed subscribers and technorati rankings
Sounds like you’re making some good progress… that Alexa ranking is pretty solid for a blog, I’m impressed… I’m about to launch my own blog, and I’d love any tips you could give me on how to attract readers/traffic.
It has been up and down for my blog… Very much to do with the upcoming video reviews to do for many blogs out there… But I am a little held up by a business opportunity I am working right now… Making my blog seems a little neglected but yet I maintain it at least one to two posts a day… But this blog of mine is somehow maturing to have stable readers already… I think that’s my achievement I have gotten for my third month of blogging…
I think that anyone serious about blogging can put out at least one post a day, monday through friday. That’s what I shoot for, plus an additional post or two on the weekends. Sometimes my best ideas come from when I’m writing a “filler” article on the weekend.
