Review: Ethernet Related Articles

When someone ordered a ReviewMe for their site, I was surprised since I had forgotten I was still listed on ReviewMe. This is my first ReviewMe request (all reviews requests were directly sent to me).
Upon looking at the site that I was paid to review, I was rather confused. The site (or page rather) is a collection of ethernet related articles. What does this have to do with web development? Is this just a ploy to get linkbacks? Well, regardless, here is my review of the site.
Overview
The page I was asked to review is a single page on the site web-articles.info. Web-Articles is a place where anyone can submit an article they have written themselves and have them publish it on the Internet for free.
I suppose this is useful for people that want to share their knowledge with the world but do not have the time and/or knowledge to set up a blog or website.
Content
If there is one thing this site isn’t lacking, it’s content. Lots and lots of very specific content. I did a quick check on Google and it appears their content is indeed original and unique. However, the topics are somewhat obscure and at times, unrelated to ethernet (cables? network?).
Some of the more obscure articles include:
- Ubicom IP2022 Wireless Network Processor
- EDTP Electronics Packet Whacker
- The MCF5282 supports a subset of the Motorola 68000
While other articles appear to be more relevant:
Also, all the articles appear to have been uploaded on the same date (day the site was launched perhaps) and there hasn’t been any new content since.
Accuracy of Content
After reading some of these articles, it appears that the content is indeed valid and correct for the most part. I can’t comment on some of the obscure articles but what they say about obtaining and using a domain name is pretty accurate.
Site Design
The site appears to be too text heavy and I feel that the Adsense ad going down the entire right hand side detracts from the credibility of the site. However, the overall site design is quite nice with a web2.0 feel (but not the web2.0 functionality).
To the webmaster’s credit, the search results (powered by Google) are smartly in an iframe, something that you rarely see with Google-powered search results. This keeps the user on your site while providing search results. And everything at least seems to flow together.
Conclusion
If you’ve ever wanted to know more than you ever should know about Motorola device support, then you might be interested in reading some of these ethernet related articles.
Or if you’ve ever had an itch to write an article about your favorite network protocol, then you can submit the article to them. But then again, you can always add it to Wikipedia.
