Showoff Rankings – Not Just for Wordpress!

I’ve been getting quite a few e-mails from people wondering how they can use my Jon’s Showoff Rankings plug-in on their non-Wordpress site. I told them they could modify the source code themselves but of course, that was met with much disappointment.
As a result, I’m happy to announce the release of a new service that provides a Showoff Rankings widget for everyone! Simply go to ShowoffRankings.com and generate your own widget to use anywhere! No plug-in installation required, just a couple lines of code! Check out the demo in the sidebar, doesn’t it look sexy?
The widget is now available in 3 different styles and now includes Compete Snapshot ranking! The PageRank detection algorithm doesn’t work on a lot of servers and is in fact against Google’s Terms of Service. For now, you need to specify your own PageRank (PageRank checker available here).
Wordpress users can continue using the plug-in but it will no longer be updated. This centralized solutions means you no longer have to update your plug-in when more rankings are supported or bug fixes are rolled out.

Note: In order to have a Technorati rank, your site must be a blog and must be submitted to Technorati.

Hi, nice plugin/widget..
I think you should add some sort of myspace/nojavascript solution.
It’s not that difficult, I wanted to develop myself for my mybloglog clone (wich I sort of abandoned because no one used it (yet)).
Anyway I think you know how to do that.
Otherwise just ask. I could post about it

Cool, how long did it take to dev widget and generator?
A few hours. Most of the code was already written from my wordpress plug-in. It was just the interface and the caching that needed to be reworked
It looks really nice, have you got plans for any more plugins?
Btw how is the rank for alexa is displayed? Is it on a logorithmic scale?
Oh yeah, I thought afer SQL Injection, you could do a good post on “XSS Jabs” and teach us how to steal a session haha

I got a problem
I added the css script in my head section of my wordpress blog.
I added script section to a widget on my side bar, saved and refreshed my page… no stats bar.
I viewed the source of my page, and both tags are in the correct place and full (ie the quotes haven’t been changed in to html characters)
I tried adding it to a page on the theme (sidebar.php) but it didn’t work.
Help me, please

Hey there! Sorry about that, it was a bug with parsing slashes in domains. Anyway, it’s fixed now and looks great on your blog!
Also made an non-ranked Compete ranking called “Unranked” instead of 0 which was confusing.

I love this widget so much. I’ve noticed that the Alexa stats have stopped updating on everyone’s blogs.

Hey Jon, nice code. We’ve been looking for something to display our ranks. Pity that the Google PR doesn’t allow automatic checking.
Had a question about Alexa ranking. Recently heard that by having the Alexa widget, everytime a visitor lands on your page it sends their IP address to the mothership when it looks up your alexa rank. (So, you don’t have to depend on visitors with the Alexa toolbar installed)
Is that true with your code as well? Will having your plugin work towards improve Alexa rank? Thanks for your time.

I’ve been using your rankings widget for a while but I noticed the Google PR only shows a PR5, regardless of what you manually set the PR too. Looks like a bug you might need to check. Otherwise, thanks for the tool!

Hi, no I don’t think you understood. I manually set my PR to show a rank of 3, but it continues to show a rank of 5. For some reason it ignores whatever PR I specify. I’m not sure why.
can i used it on blogger? or does anyone has change the plugin so it can used for blogger?
To prevent overloading the server, the widget is cached for 1 day. So any changes you made won’t appear until the next day! I’ll manually clear your cache for you though so you can see the change right away.
