The Best BitTorrent Search Engine
Posted by Jon Lee in Sponsored, Technology, tags: bittorrent, review, vertorBitTorrent is a great protocol that allows for distributed (legal) file sharing. Since its inception in 2001, it has grown substantially and currently accounts for more than half of all internet traffic by some accounts. Part of this enormous traffic growth can be attributed to the recent popularization of HD content. Unfortunately, Internet speeds have not grown along with the demand for larger and higher quality media files. Furthermore, many Internet Service Providers have been instilling bandwidth limitations in order to remain profitable (or to become more profitable).
In a country and age where bandwidth is at a premium, it is very important none of it goes to waste. You don’t want to have to download gigabytes of data only to find out later it was the wrong file, a fake file, or worse: an infected file.
All this preamble was simply to introduce the best BitTorrent search engine I’ve used thus far, VerTor. What sets VerTor apart from other engines and trackers is that it verifies the content of every torrent file (hence the name).
How does it verify torrent files you ask? Here are some of the ways:
- Lists all individual files contained within a torrent file
- Scans all contained files for viruses (using Clam Win)
- Captures and displays a preview of actual screenshots of video
- Splits a sample of audio files for preview
- Checks to make sure files are not password protected
- Checks for DRM protection on files
Can’t find a torrent you want on their site? You can download the torrent file on another site and upload it to VerTor for verification without taking the plunge yourself.
The site is also very friendly for users new to the whole concept of BitTorrent. Torrent files can even be opened using the web-based BitLet software so you don’t have to install or configure a client on your own computer. One disadvantage is that it takes a while for VerTor to verify torrents so it takes a little while for new content to be verified and listed on the site. A small price to pay for peace of mind in my opinion.
All in all, VerTor is a great site and an excellent example of the type of services the web is capable of these days.
Just remember, make sure what you’re downloading is legal and not copyrighted!

Thanks for sharing the site. Actually, I have only used IsoHunt to look for torrents. And I really can’t complain.
But yeah, when it comes to downloading stuff, one can never be too sure about its safety.
Nice. I was looking for a good torrent search engine for over an hour now. Glad I found your post. Cheers!
Being able to verify that your download is the real thing, especially when bandwith is as slow and expensive as here in South Africa makes real good sense. I will definitely use VerTor the next time I need to download something big! Ta for sharing guys!
vertor is good but its actually a lil slow and I don’t think that u shud compare vertor with Mininova, piratebay or isohunt because they are legitimate xD
Thanks! I hate getting stung with fakes – I find using demonoid or speedcd is pretty good for speed and verified torrents as well.
Nice interface, but DC++ is better torrent. Personally my opinion.
Very cool torrent search engine, I usually just use Google whenever I am looking for any ‘legal’ files that I want to download. But I may have to start using this torrent search engine as an alternative place to search =D
Till then,
Jean
As a great fun of torrents thank you for the info. My favourite demonoid.com has been down for a month now. However, you can always resort to piratebay.org
I’ve never heard of VerTor before although the DRM checking feature and audio/video samples will make it a serious contender for top spot. With the recent court rulings for PirateBay, many users will be seeking an alternative torrent search facility so VerTor may just have timed this perfectly.
I never liked Bit Torrent, many because i got to many virus and always got shafted i always shared my files but for some reason i could never complete a full download, maybe it has changed alot since a few years ago, i will have to try it again, Thanks
Nice options there. It is good to see that some search engines are willing to act in respect for the letter of law. The other thing is if that law is accurate to the reality, but making this simple: law is a law, and must be respected. And here I give my respect to the people responsible for creating torrent search engine with will to search legal files.
Nice, i will try this in place of my torrent.
I used previously btjunkie.com for the torrnt search. But the site you shared is better. Thanks for sharing this site
Damn, that’s a nice find!
Even though I’ve stopped using torrents completely, this could still come in handy
@used tires: Exactly, that’s my method too: Google.
VerTor seems very useful…I especially like the fact that it verifies torrents so you know you can download safely…and that will come in VERY handy..especially now that they got 2 out of 3 largest torrent sites shut (piratebay is shut and turned into something else and mininova as well..)..only one of the BIG 3 still has a chance…demonoid..and I hope at least they make it through this rouhg times for torrent sites
I’ve used Vertor for a while and it is my first choice torrent search engine. The fact that it verifies torrents really takes out a lot of the headaches. I remember the old days of downloading 5 copies of something just to find one that works.
