WordPress Hacks
Posted by Jon Lee in Efficiency, tags: Efficiency, TinyMCE, tips, wordpressFor all you bloggers out there, here are three WordPress hacks/tips you may not have known about!
- Editing the Timestamp
You can write several articles at once and set them to be automatically published on a certain date, very helpful if you’re going on vacation and still want the blog to be active! MsDanielle has a nice writeup about timestamping here. - Advanced Editing
A little feature in WordPress 2.1+ is to open up the advanced visual editing toolbar. To do this, simply hit Alt-V when editing (Shift-Alt-V in Firefox). It brings up an extra toolbar with things like: Paste as plain text, Clean up messy code, Change text color, and Insert special ©ha®acter§.
- Keyboard Shortcuts
If you’re a regular reader, you’d know I’m a big fan of keyboard shortcuts for improved efficiency. In the wordpress editor (TinyMCE), there are shortcuts you can use to prevent having to click the toolbar. (Shift-Alt in Firefox and Ctrl for Macs instead of Alt):
-
- Alt+B = Bold (Ctrl-B may work too)
- Alt+I = italic (Ctrl-I may work too)
- Alt+Q = Blockquote
- Alt+T = more
- Alt+U = ul (Unordered list)
- Alt+O = ol (Ordered list)
- Alt+L = li (list item)
- Alt+A = link
- Alt+C =
code - Alt+P = Publish (the post)
